Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the virtues of family football scholarship and volunteering for the community. The first line of his family was that Selmon is the eldest of nine kids raised by Eufala by Lucious Selmon. The Selmons were also among the three siblings who represented Oklahoma in football. Three of them were All-Americans. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for the entire year. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi award as the nation's best lineman. In his time as the Oklahoma's quarterback of choice, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and won two national championships. In 1975, he was awarded his third scholarship, and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon has a bachelor's degree in education. Fourth year of the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. After graduation, he moved to Tampa and played nine years with Tampa's Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro 3 times. He then began his career. The first position he held was an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as one of the 10 of the most notable young men. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He was captain of his college team in the year 1975. He joined University of South Florida in 1993 as an assistant director of sports. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame by his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 as well as by the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Selmons' parents Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. were awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
